About

Thoir 76 was founded by director Rocky Herrmann, a leading transport engineer and urban technologist. Rocky has worked in the public transport sectors of several countries and has more than 20 years of experience.

“Transport is about people, not vehicles and our job is to create transport systems that can be an enabler and better the quality of life for the communities,” said Rocky.

Company Vision

At Thoir76 we adopt a holistic approach to transport planning and traffic engineering, one that looks to create integrated urban solutions that go beyond the transport element of a project.

We achieve this by forging positive relationships and becoming trusted advisors sometimes beyond the set scope of work. By focusing on quality, not quantity we add value by driving innovation and thought-based delivery – and creating solutions conceptualised for the unique needs of the place.

We do the UNusual, we are unique and creative, and we think outside the box to find the perfect solution for our clients.

Qualifications

Company founder and director Rocky Herrmann holds a BSc Honours Degree in Applied Science (transportation planning) from the University of Pretoria, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Technology from the Durban University of Technology and a national diploma from Technikon Natal. Rocky is also a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa, where he is registered as a professional technologist.

Legend Behind The Logo

Thoir (pronounced “Her”) is the Gaelic word for East. Founder and director Rocky Herrman first came across the word while working on a tunnelling project in Ireland and liked the distinctive name.

It so happens that the company’s home base (and Rocky’s home) is in Durban on the East coast of South Africa. And in a lovely twist of linguistic coincidence, the pronunciation of Thoir (Her) mirrors the first part of our director’s surname – Herrmann.

The badge-shaped logo is a nod to Route 66, and Thoir’s transport-related projects. The badge colours are those of the South African flag, a show of loyalty to the company’s roots.

The final piece is the 76 – the year in which our founder was born. And there you have it Thoir 76.
